Sandton, from the Higher Ground restaurant at St Stithians. It’s one of the best views of Joburg you’ll find anywhere in Joburg. The CBD of the city itself is out of frame, to the right. Together, these business districts make a sweeping panorama, and a striking visual metaphor of the expansion of the city to the suburbs since the birth of Sandton City in the 1970s.

  1. Gorgeous.

You’re right Gus, there have been enormous changes. I grew up in 50s Bryanston when Sandton was still a mink and manure retreat.

I left a cosmopolitan suburb in 1989 that was already positioning itself as Joburg’s new CBD.

    • Thanks Jani! Sandton has grown so much. The mall is still the heart of it all, but there are still some green spots if you look hard enough.
