I am running a workshop on new media and blogging for rural journalists in Dodoma. I asked the journalists what they thought was the single most important and influential technology ever to emerge from Africa, and one of them held up his mobile and said: “Mobiles”. In a way he was right, because the answer I was looking for was “language”, and without language, without the ability to connect, human to human, we wouldn’t have mobiles.
